Stream Bed - Beaver Bend Trail

Wachusett Meadow - Princeton, MA

Hiking in the winter, pre-snow, offers wonderful scenery if you know where to look. Sure the leaves have fallen, but they are still beautiful (even though they are dead). A little morbid, I know, but the forest floor littered with dried leaves creates colorful earth-toned textures. Peaking out from the rust and orange are patches of brilliant green moss and ferns. The contrast of muted colors helps to make the remaining greens pop. I enjoy observing the forest in early winter because I always find something new to photograph.
